除此之外，一些华语圈的国家也会评选年度汉字，比如马来西亚、新加坡、日本。新加坡就将“涨”作为2022的年度汉字，可能是由于物价上涨影响了新加坡人的日常生活，另外，“乱”、“荡”分别位列第二和第三，这也许是受到了国际形势的影响。

中国香港也在12月30日公布了年度汉字：“通”，活动主办方对“通”字的解释为“无阻碍、可以穿行的”，代表的社会事件为“自新冠疫情以来香港与内地人员往来、商务活动受到影响，市民期盼尽快‘通关’”，表达了一种美好的希望。
